Danse Macabre
April 2022
My Cowles Center choreographic debut, Danse Macabre, completes Ballet Co.Laboratory’s Spring Performance at the Goodale Theater.
Danse Macabre is based on Saint-Saëns’ tone poem which has become a metaphor for how chaos and order depend on each other. In this piece, dancers navigate the push and pull of daily responsibilities, discover others on similar paths, and embrace the power of unison.

In this new interpretation, 17 of the Twin Cities most versatile and creative dance artists and 6 musicians led by jazz pianist Joseph Strachan navigate the world of Terry Riley’s infamous In C. The musical score, made up of 53 short cells with the simple instruction for musicians to repeat as many times as they wish before moving forward, gives full agency to the musicians and is therefore never played the same way twice.

Cedarbacke
April 2023
HoneyWorks presents Cedarbacke, a dance project in 3 phases which considers the history of Minneapolis’s Southern Theater. As a trilogy work, this first segment considers the Southern Theater in the 1920-30’s as a central location for immigrants and first generation Americans to gather, sharing in entertainment and cultural exchange. Nine dance-artists collaborate and share with violinist Sara Pajunen, a playful homage to the Southern Theater and a recognition of the waves of cultures the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood has been home to.
